Solar Architecture
A Course Prepared by Garry Baverstock AM, B.Arch, MSc, L.F.A.I.A, M.I.S.E.S This course takes an architect or building designer or engineer through the science of designing commercial / institutional buildings for the climate all over the world. It is not about compliance, it is about designing from first principles. With this course there is a large emphasis on the design. Enrollees who are laypeople (reading only) should be able to understand what a professional should do in a professional process of designing a low energy sustainable home. As an Elective This course is available upon application an elective study unit at university level for a Master Degree program. If the unit assignments are submitted and passed then points, upon formal application and approval, maybe credited towards an approved higher education program through Energy Studies at the School of Engineering at Murdoch University. This course may be also available as elective study via any other university in the world upon successful application to Adjunct Professor Baverstock. Professional Development Accreditation For the professional designer enrollee to this course needs to show how a quality assured result can always be achieved for their clients. The course is devised to show how a climate / energy problem can be solved from first principles every time by blending the science with the art of architectural design. This course is applicable to any climate in the world. Guide to PD accreditation points based on the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) This unit would take at least 5-hours / lecture sessions to listen to the lecture and read the notes, so would qualify for 5 points. To complete the assignments for assessment for each lecture session would be another 4 hours spent adding an extra 4 points on average for each lecture session where an assignment is included. The final design assignment would add another 25 – 50 hours and if verified would add another would add another extra 25 – 50 points. Academic accreditation points: Three (3) points maybe authorized towards academic studies towards a Master Degree via Energy studies at Murdoch University with written proof of completing each lecture and passing assignments set in the course material, to the standards set by Adjunct Professor Baverstock. Similar points upon approved application via other nominated collaborating universities throughout the world adopt this course as an elective field of study as an optional part of their academic program. The final decision rests with the University in the context of a particular course of study requested by the applicant.

Climate Sensible Design
A Course Prepared by Garry Baverstock AM, B.Arch, MSc, L.F.A.I.A, M.I.S.E.S This course takes an architect or building designer or engineer through the science of designing houses for the climate all over the world. The student is firstly introduced to the history of solar housing in Australia (in relational to the rest of the world) and traditional ways of dealing with the climate through the science of thermodynamics, as applied to home design. It is not about compliance, it is about designing from first principles. With this course there is a large emphasis on the design process and developing design skills. Enrollees who are layperson can comprehensively understand what a professional should do in designing your low energy sustainable home, through reading this course.
