Modules

If you do not wish to do the entire course, you can choose to do specific modules within the course. These are all the different modules we offer as stand alone courses.

CSD01 – Introduction to Climate Sensible Design
An Introduction to the CSD course

CSD02 – Basic Principles of Climate Sensible Design
The basic principles and concepts needed to understand the benefits and main features of a climate designed home anywhere in the world.

CSD03 – The Art of the Science of Climate Sensible Design
This course explores the marriage of the science of building materials with the science of climatology

CSD04 – Eco Materials for Climate Sensible Design
This outlines a method for assessing the sustainability of materials for use in the housing industry.

CSD05 – Solar Subdivisions and Urban Design for Climate Sensible Design
Planning of solar subdivisions and the design guidelines needed to maximize the potential for CSD of a land development is covered in this module.

CSD06 – TECTO Method for Climate Sensible Design
This is a specific quality assured method of designed devised by Garry Baverstock over a 20 year period

CSD07 – Integrated PV & Low Energy Technology for Climate Sensible Design
The various technologies that enhance a passive solar design to make a home more sustainable is the focus of this module

CSD08 – Global Variations for Climate Sensible Design
Designing a home to CSD standards anywhere in the world is the focus of this module

CSD09 – Selling Solar for Climate Sensible Design
There is a sales process that never changes and this is the focus for this module. Selling the notion and the features of CSD to prospective developers or home clients is such an important part of a successful architectural practice.

CSD10 – The Role of Professional Associations in Housing
This description is useful for those wishing to extend their involvement beyond their practice and get involved in professional and industry levels

SA01 – Introduction to Solar Architecture
This course module explains the objectives of the whole course, the training needed and background to the subject.

SA02 – Basic Principles of Solar Architecture
There are fundamental principles that can be ascribed to creating high performance passive solar buildings. World wide savings of 30% to 90% energy can be saved from application of these perennial principles. This opens the door for economic application of new innovative 21st century materials systems and technologies. This course unit is solid grounding for becoming a true expert in the field. The relevance of this approach will be strong for the next 50 to 100 years and probably beyond.

SA03 – The Art of the Science in Solar Architecture
This course unit is extremely important for understanding how scientifically the basic principles can be applied to Solar Architecture. Its separate study is not advised. Completing the Basic Principles unit and module is recommended first.

SA04 – Eco Materials for Solar Architecture
The use of material with the correct physics for the applications is an important part of sustainable development in the 21st century. This unit builds on the briefings and notes presented in the CSD course unit. It is recommended as a precursor for this unit. Innovations from hereon will play a dynamic role how the principles of eco-materials are applied. The enrollee should view this unit as a way to gain insight into a new way of thinking.

SA05 – Solar Subdivisions and Urban Design for Solar Architecture
For full understanding of this course unit, it is recommended that the CSD unit of the same name be studied first. Understanding the ramifications for residential living is needed for understanding of the applications to the commercial and institutional arena of design. Around the world there is partial understanding from planning departments and consultants. A more comprehensive understanding is needed for real progress to be achieved and great reductions of the carbon footprint in the built environment to occur.

SA06 – Professional Process/Design Methods for Solar Architecture
Architecture really comes to life when there is a due process followed as a design idea is developed. as Edison said, 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. A step by Sep process is taught in this unit to ensure that the solar design aspects are maximized in a project.

SA07 – Integrated PV & Low Energy Technology for Solar Architecture
Once the passive solar design of a building has been optimized for the climate and site location the use of smart technology plays an important part for achieving truly a sustainable result.

SA08 – Global Variations for Solar Architecture
Solar architecture can be applied in any climate to a greater or lessor extent. This short course covers the various approaches and the use of ‘ecotect’ design tool to optimize a passive solar solution as well as some compliance systems that are starting to prove useful. It i important that the Art of the Science course be understood before proceeding with this study.

SA09 – Marketing Sustainable Developments for Solar Architecture
The emergence of sustainable development is a paradigm shift in many ways. it is important for the architect to be integrally involved in communicating the benefits of solar design as part of the overall sustainable approach. This study course assumes that the enrollee has studied “Selling Solar” as part of the CSD course as a precursor to this course.

SA10 – Health Principles in the Built Environment for Solar Architecture
This study module looks at the principles that must complete the awareness of the architect and designer in completing an architectural design. Solar buildings are naturally beneficial to the health of the occupants and the enrollee will gather a widen vision of what makes an healthy building from this study unit.

SA11 – Strategies for Health Improvement in Buildings for Solar Architecture
To understand the occupants in buildings is the first step to understanding how health quality can be improved. This needs strategic thinking by the architect and engineers. This study course looks at ways this may be achieved.
